During the year-end reviews, nearly all of you spoke of a desire to (re)build community with your fellow IDEAL scholars. This blog, though in no way a replacement for face-to-face interaction, is an attempt to do just that. This is our space where we can feel free to "speak" to each other, irrespective of whether or not we are occupying the same physical space.

Need scholars to help with retreat planning...
Hello all,
I think that the vast majority of us would agree that the annual IDEAL Scholar's retreat is both fun and rewarding. That said, there is still room for improvement. Thus, in the spirit of community, I want to invite you all to join me in planning the activities for this year's retreat. You can contribute one of two ways: (1) if you have an idea to share regarding an activity, simply reply to this thread; (2) if you want to take part in the actual planning process, including but not limited to logistics, etc., then, by all means let me know (either via this blog or via email/phone).
Thanks in advance.

More on the thinking behind the blog
I am reminded of the time Rachel, Judah, and I went to watch Jewell (Fix) box. To my surprise I also got to see two more IDEAL scholars in action: both Jose Avila and J.C. were boxing as well. Now, admittedly, I am a big, big boxing fan, so I had a blast. (So much so that I may or may not be granted admittance for future venues.) Nevertheless, I just kept thinking how cool it would have been had we showed up, en mass, to support our fellow IDEAL scholars. In order to do that, we'd all have to know about it ahead of time. Thus, I am hoping that in addition to whatever other functions this blog ultimately serves, it will function as a space for announcements of things that we can do together in support of each other. Additionally, I hope that it we will all feel free to share our success and/or concerns, or perhaps a song or a poem.
IDEAL Scholars Blog spot
Hello all,
Welcome to the IDEAL Scholars blog! This space will function as our community-wide whiteboard, so to speak. I really wanted to get away from the mass email format that we've relied on for so long. I envision this blog as something more personal; that is to say, it is something that we all can take ownership of.
So please, if you are so inclined, add to it liberally. If you have an announcement that you'd like to share with the entirety of the IDEAL community--please feel free. If you want to start a thread just for fun or if you'd like to know more about a particular course or professor, blog away.
