Hi everyone!
The first family dinner at our house on Thursday was a success-- the delicious salmon (if I do say so myself) was perfectly complemented by J.C.'s inappropriate stories. :) Thanks to Jackie, J.C., Diana, Anthony, and Daishar for coming through... I really enjoyed having you all in our home, even if for a short while, and I do look forward to getting to know some of you more as we continue to have these dinners.
Next time, we're busting out the board games so bring your favorite game if you join us next week!
And Japhinma, let me know when you're going to claim one of these dinners to make your famous rice for us.

During the year-end reviews, nearly all of you spoke of a desire to (re)build community with your fellow IDEAL scholars. This blog, though in no way a replacement for face-to-face interaction, is an attempt to do just that. This is our space where we can feel free to "speak" to each other, irrespective of whether or not we are occupying the same physical space.

This is OUR blog
Hello all,
Please treat this space as a community-wide forum. You don't need my permission to post anything: you all have creative license. For example, if you have pictures from this weekend's retreat and or stories that you'd like to share, please feel free to do so.

Brief overview of IDEAL calendar
Hello all,
I am so excited about this upcoming semester. Anthony described a vibe that he picked up on, a communal vibe: I can feel it too. Let's continue to build!
With that said, here are the events for August 2011 that we have penciled in thus far:
August 2011:
August 11th, 18th, and 25th, from 6:00-9:00pm: Dinner at the Sims'
Note: We will take care of the first dinner; after that, however, we will be looking for volunteers. If you decide to cook, simply email or text me a list of the groceries that you need and I will (cheerfully) procure them. I have this time blocked out from 6:00pm-9:00pm; this particular window of time is malleable. For example, if you need to come early to prepare, you are welcomed to do so; and, if scholars want to prepare meals together, feel free to come over before 6:00. Also, the end time is flexible as well.
Lastly, please email me with any food allergies and/or special dietary needs. Thanks.
*All of you should have been (recently) invited to the IDEAL Google calendar doc. If you did not receive an invitation to this claendar, please let me know right away. Thanks.*
